NEWS FLASH-

12-12-2023

This is a proud day.  After nine years of giving we estimate that Charlie and Lilly have donated 500,000 pieces of Lego.  It's a lot harder than you think.  But well done to you both-and Mum&Dad for the help to get there.  Next year Charlie heads off to college and Lilly says "Another 500,000 Pieces!".

11-12-2023

The holidays have arrived and we are busy-busy.  Despite a few more fraudulent bad apples trying to get Lego from us we have received several more loads and made a van sized delivery for the Denver Thirdway Center for the Third year running.  Well done Charlie and Lilly for all their hard work.  A big Thank you to the Edzarelli Family who not only delivered a van load but saved us from cleaning and packaging.  Keep that Lego coming and starting in January we could use some donations as shipping costs are going up.  Remember all of your donations are tax deductible through the New Mexico Community Foundation.

5-26-2023.

After months of logistical problems-DHL collected our first delivery for Ukraine kiddos via Poland.  The next load will be larger and likely go by sea. UPDATE-The shipment made it and will be delivered to 90 women and children in Krakow, Poland on Sunday!!!  Way to go DHL!

We no longer will collect Legos so please be prepared to deliver them as we have had some wild goose chases recently.

Even with DHL's help shipping costs have gone up.  To date we have not accepted cash donations but it looks like we need to start looking at that.  All funds are managed by the New Mexico Community Foundation.

HELP US BRING A SMILE TO KIDS ALL OVER THE WORLD

Charlie's Lego Factory is a 501C3 charity registered under the New Mexico Community Foundation

image1.jpeg

Hi  - My name is Charlie Ashcroft.  I love LEGO.  I've been playing with LEGO for as long as I can remember.  My helpers are my sister Lilly and my Mom and Dad.  We live in Denver, Colorado, USA.

But this charity is not about me. It is about kids all over the world who don't have LEGO. I want kids, like me, to be able to play with LEGO. I want a boy or girl to smile because they received a package with LEGO in it.

Healthcare and education are very important but they don't always make kids smile. LEGO and building with LEGO pretty much guarantees happy. LEGO makes kids smile.

If you have left over LEGO you don't need - and you want to contribute to my LEGO Factory - you can send it to me so we can sort it, package it and send it to kids who we have contacted or who have contacted us, and who don't have the chance or means to have LEGO.

HOW IT WORKS

LEGO ARRIVES

Lots of parents tell us they have a ton fo LEGO left over from when their kids were young.  BINGO-so head upstairs into that attic or down into the basement and drop it in a US mail box to the LEGO Factory.  From the time it arrives to the day it goes out there is a lead time of about two weeks because we clean and separate the LEGO.

THE CLEAN LEGO GETS READY FOR ITS JOURNEY

LEGO GETS WASHED

Once we get donated LEGO, we clean it well, sort it so each kid gets enough LEGO to make a cool creation, and we include a mini-figure or two. Sometimes we create different LEGO PAKS, which means we build a small car, helicopter, train and add a mini-figure to the PAK.

We put the LEGO into paper lunch bags (bright colored ones if available) for shipping. All LEGO is shipped within 14 days of arrival to Charlie's LEGO Factory.

DHL IS OUR OFFICIAL SHIPPING PARTNER-THANK YOU DHL

SHIPPED &ARRIVES

Every day charities and other organizations are solving health and welfare issues all around the world. Charlie decided that while medical care and good education and freshwater are critical -- he wants to bring a smile to kids. To him, sending kids in need LEGO is a reason to smile.

MONEY FOR SHIPPING AND BUYING LEGO

A typical small pack of LEGO I send out costs about $3.95 to go to Africa.  A small batch of LEGO off Ebay will cost anywhere from $5 to $50.  You can help by making a small donation.  My Mom is a lawyer and set up all the legal stuff.  There is a number you can get that allows you to write off the donation for tax purposes.  You can donate through PayPal or Mail a check - but please don't send a check  for over $25 in case it gets lost in the mail.

WELCOME TO OUR

SON'S IDEA OF HELPING KIDS ALL OVER THE WORLD.

Our policy

Charlie and his Sister Lilly, like many kids, are very generous and kind. He came up with this idea of Charlie's LEGO Factory when he heard his Dad talking about children in Africa. As parents we help Charlie with the logistics of the charity -- but this is his idea.

Please feel free to email us directly with questions or ideas you may have regarding Charlie's charity.  We'd love to hear from you.

Thanks for your help and interest.

Jessica & William Ashcroft

HOW YOU CAN HELP

"I decided one day that I wanted to help kids, and I have a lot of LEGO, and I realized there are kids all over the world who don't get to play with LEGO - so I decided I want to give some of my LEGO away to kids in need who can't afford to buy LEGO." - Charlie Ashcroft-Founder

We send LEGO to kids all over the world and here in the USA.  We need and want you to email us and help us send LEGO to kids in need.  My parents and I will also reach out to places that know about kids in need and who don't otherwise get to play with LEGO. We don't send LEGO to kids who just want more LEGO. The simple purpose of my charity, Charlie's LEGO Factory, is to send LEGO to kids who have very little or are in need. They could be kids in orphanages in cities or remote locations around the world, in a refugee situation, foster care, hospitals and kids who may be homeless.

If you know of places where we can bring a smile to kids, let us know.  Maybe you are a policeman or woman in a country where you know LEGO would make a change in a kid's day.  You could be a nurse and care for very sick kids.  Perhaps you are a volunteer or running an organization in a far off land where kids have very little to nothing, and you think they would love some LEGO.  We want to hear from you.

This is a big undertaking so here are some ways you can help. When my little sister Lilly gets bigger we are going to travel the world and hand out LEGO in person, but we have a lot of work to do before that happens.

PACKAGING

We need Paper Lunch Bags

When we ship the LEGO we put all the LEGO pieces in a paper bag the size of a lunch bag. Each paper lunch bag contains a LEGO figure and enough LEGO pieces to make a car or a motorcycle or a plane or whatever imaginative creation can be  built from a bag of LEGO.

LEGO

I started my Charity with my LEGO, but it is starting to run out. You can help me by sending LEGO. When it arrives it will get washed, then sorted (maybe into LEGO PAKS) for shipment.  We need the following, but all LEGO is welcome.  It will get shipped within 14 days of arriving at Charlie's LEGO Factory.

+ MINI FIGURES

+ WHEELS
+ STEERING WHEELS
+ LEGO CITY HOUSES
+ POLICE CARS, FIRE TRUCKS, PLANES, TOOLS
+ PROPELLERS
+ HOUSE PARTS
+ WINDOWS

The below picture is what about 850 pieces of Lego look like.  We clean it and sort it before sending it out. Every 1,000 pieces costs approx $31 to buy and then another $12-$32 to send depending on where it is going.

OUR GOAL

850 pieces.jpg

BY 2025 WE WANT TO HAVE SENT OUT 1,000,000 LEGO PIECES.

It’s a huge undertaking but the goal is by the end of it we will have handed out LEGO in 105 countries across the world. You can help by either gathering LEGO and sending it to us, or asking us where we want the LEGO to go, and you can send it.

We'd also love to set up international chapters of Charlie's LEGO Factory to make shipping easier, so please let us know if that interests you.
